PU  =  Palms up
PD  =  Palms down
PI    =  Palms in
RK  =  Right kaholo
LK  =  Left kaholo

Basic Feet

‘aiha’a             Style of dance that is done very low with knees bent, characteristic of kahiko.
ku                   Stand in basic position
ka’o                 sway
hela                 place foot flat at front angle
kaholo             Three consecutive steps in one direction followed by a sway (bring foot in on 4th
            count). This is the basic hula step.
kaholo ao ao    kaholo half turns (side to side)
‘ami ‘akau        circular hip movement to the right
‘ami hema        circular hip movement to the left
‘ami kuku         3 fast ‘ami to the front angle
‘uehe               In ‘aiha’a, lift heels, knees expand and close.
kalakaua         step front and back twice, moving sideways
lele ‘uehe        step, hela, step, ‘uehe
ki’i wawae        point front side, front, step, ‘uehe
ho’opuka         ku’i, kaholo ilali-iluna, making 1/3 turn
